With record breaking cold temperatures being the norm this winter in New York, many homeless animals are at risk of starvation and even death. Although animal shelters are available to help and house those particular animals in need, the growing numbers of animals needing assistance is placing an immense amount of stress on the already overcrowded shelters. The lack of funding and space has led some to look for other options to aid in relieving some of the sufferings of the most vulnerable animals.
New York City Attorney, Ross Abelow, recently announced the launch of a new Gofundme campaign aimed at helping animal shelters all across New York City. Created January 13, 20016, the campaign has set its goal to generate $5000 for the city’s homeless animal epidemic. The funds from the Gofundme account will be used for items such as blankets, food and vaccination for distressed animals. Abelow has chosen to initiate this campaign as part of his involvement in the New York City community. The money that is raised will go to animal shelters that lack operating funds to provide services as well as space for animals who may otherwise, without intervention, die.
